Our Mission
Our mission is to partner with parents to develop bilingual children who are confident, empathetic, mindful, and have a life-long love of learning. We provide a unique Japanese-English bilingual Montessori learning environment for children ages 2.5 to 6 years, which allows our students to advance to their highest academic potential at their own individual pace. By maintaining an intimate environment with a limited class size, our expert team of teachers is able to provide deeply rich and individualized attention to each student and family. Thus, Berkeley International Montessori School feels like an extension of the home.
Our Philosophy
The Montessori philosophy of child development is based on the belief that children learn best through concrete, sensorial experiences driven by their own curiosity and desire to interact with their environment. The Montessori classroom environment is carefully prepared and structured to allow each child to learn through independent exploration–with trained instructors ready to assist in the process. The sensorial-based materials, practicing fine and gross motor skills, language, geography, science, art, and practical life skills, are prearranged on shelves (within the child’s reach) at their own choosing, reinforcing the child’s independence, confidence, sense of accomplishment, and motivation.
