Sakiko Takagi

Director and Co-founder

Sakiko Takagi is a highly experienced Montessorian, having over 25 years of experience in the classroom, including more than a decade as a head teacher and mentor teacher. She has had the privilege to help found and open two Montessori schools before BIM, including our sister school, American International Montessori. Originally from Kyoto, Japan, she holds Montessori credentials through the American Montessori Society. Her years of experience and esteemed reputation have helped her garner a team of experienced educators and administrators who share her vision of Montessori philosophy and bilingual education.

Ernest Mahr

Director of AIM

Mahr-sensei is the founder and director of our sister school, American International Montessori. He and Saki-sensei worked together at AIM for 9 years both as co-founders and teachers in the Japanese Children's House, and he is proud to help support her in launching BIM and further expanding our shared philosophies of Montessori education and cultural exchange and understanding through bilingual education. Prior to opening AIM, Mahr-sensei was co-director and helped start Global Montessori International School in Berkeley. He was also the director at Pacific Rim International (PRINTS), a trilingual Montessori school in Emeryville, for 15 years. He served as a teacher of teachers in the Montessori credentialing program for St. Mary’s College in Moraga as well. He has a BA in Child Psychology and a MA in Early Childhood Education.
